The really big game companies has started to take notice and want a piece of the pie. Just recently, the biggest publishers of video games in the world Electronic Arts bought the social gaming company Playfish for $275 million, but it's close to $400 million when all is added up. Playfish are the creators of games such as the very popular Pet Society. Other social gaming companies include Nival Games, Meteor Games and the biggest of them all, Zynga. Zynga has a huge pie of the social gaming market right now with games like Farmville, Mafia Wars, Yoville and Texas HoldEm Poker. It is estimated that they have over 200 million players worldwide. Zynga is now valuated at $1 Billion according to popular social gaming website Inside Social Games.
Social gaming is not a new phenomenon, but with the rise of social media like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Digg, Myspace and others, the social games have finally found an arena. The purchase of Playfish by Electronic Arts is proof of huge profit margins and that the biggest players see this as more than a fad. People like to be social, they love social networks and interacting in virtual worlds like Yoville and Farmville.
